The root of all these problems may just be a very common condition which often goes untreated called Sleep Apnea. But what is sleep apnea and what can a dentist do for sleep apnea?
Snoring, besides being bothersome to your bedmate is a common symptom of obstructive sleep apnea( also called OSA). OSA actually causes you to stop breathing several times during your sleep (hundreds of times). This constant interruption of your breathing can cause a lot of serious, and life threatening, conditions including various forms of heart disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, even depression and other illnesses.
The way the interruption in breathing happens when your tongue, throat and jaw muscle relax which causes your airway to be blocked. A spike in blood pressure is triggered by the pause in breathing which repeated hundreds of times every night can lead to a very serious condition.
Typical tests to diagnose sleep apnea or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are conducted by licensed sleep centers. They involve an overnight stay, which is an inconvenient and expensive process that often stops many patient from going to get diagnosed and treated.
We have a new technology to offer our patients. With a simple test that you can perform at home using a non invasive recording machine we send you home with. Once the test done We than transfer the readings from our office to a sleep center that will confirm the diagnosis.
