Saliva
by: Dental Assistant Team

Saliva. Everyone knows what it is, but few really understand its impact on our dental health and our general health.

Saliva is secreted by our salivary glands and plays a very important role in the health of our teeth. The enzymes the saliva contains are essential to our digestive system as they process and help the digestion of the dietary starches and fat we consume.

That you probably already knew, but did you know that saliva also protects our teeth from decay?

Saliva can also help determine why some of us continue to develop decay even with good diet, regular teeth cleanings and proper home care. We can now help determine from just a simple saliva test, available in our dental office, what bacteria you carry in your mouth that might be causing the tooth decay you are experiencing.

The doctors at Drs Rohrer's have invested in new testing technology to help our patients determine the cause of the decay. This new and innovative technology allows us to perform the test right in our dental office. All we need is a sample of your saliva and in a few minutes we have a result for you. We use those findings to guide you on how to keep your tooth decay in check.

Your saliva can be a great way for us to determine what causes your re-occurring tooth decay. Ask us about our great new saliva testing.
