LET THERE BE LIGHT! The Zoom treatment.
As we discussed in prior articles, bleaching has many options designed to fit almost any lifestyle (and budget). Here at Rohrer Cosmetic Restorative Dentistry, we are committed to delivering quality treatment and give a wide array of treatment choices to our patients, as we realize that both time and budget vary from patient to patient.
What you need to know about Zoom...
Zoom is widely advertised, and as a result we have a lot of patients asking us if we use this bleaching method. It is a service we do offer, along with a few different methods of bleaching.
The Zoom bleaching process consists of an initial consultation with one of the Doctors, to ensure you are a good candidate for this method. Provided the Doctor decides that this method is right for you, we will take molds of your mouth (both arches), so that we can make custom bleaching trays for you.
You will use these custom-fitted trays not only the day of your treatment, but also for two weeks or more (including wearing them with desensitizer as part of the post-treatment protocol). You will also use them as you continue bleaching until you reach the desired color as per Zoom instructions for optimal results.
The service we offer in the office is a good way to jump start your bleaching. Most patients can expect to see an improvement in whiteness in just a few hours (depending your starting shade.)
You may be wondering “Why does the office visit take so long?”
As with anything else, preparation is the key to good results. The stapes we take to prepare for your treatment actually take up about half the time of the initial appointment.
First, we take records - such as your current shade - and we also take pictures of your teeth to keep in your digital chart. This gives us a baseline and helps us monitor your progress during the entire course of treatment.
Secondly, isolating all tissue (gum, lips, and any possible recession if not advanced) is a big part of the preparation before we can apply the bleach on your teeth and is a critical step for both your comfort and safety. Essentially, we are making sure all tissue and possible areas of recession are completely sealed and protected from the bleach and the light.
After these critical preparatory steps are completed, we will proceed with three applications of the bleach. We apply the material on your teeth with a small soft brush allow the solution to cure for 15 minutes between applications. In between each application, we carefully remove any excess solution with a suction tip. We also apply vitamin oil on your lips (your lips must be protected from the light as well at all time)
The specially designed Zoom curing light is then programmed for a 15 minute exposure. Myself or another dental assistant will remain in the room during this exposure time to make sure you are comfortable, as you are unable to speak or move out of the chair during this time. We both are required to wear special protective glasses to shield our eyes from the light.
Zoom is just one of the options we offer our patients who want a whiter, brighter smile. Click here to contact us to discuss what options are available!
